The superior bonding strength results from the formation of chemical interdiffusion (estimated thickness of 700-1500 nm) and homo-epitaxial growth at the interface. The tensile failure mode is the fracture at the subsurface of the top layer, without fracture at the coating-substrate interface. Results show that the Al-Si based gradient coating presents both desirable surface hardness (385.1±46.6 HV 0.025) and bonding strength (46.4-58.1 MPa). The crystallographic relationship of the bond layer-substrate interface was further investigated using the focused ion beam and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The tensile adhesive and interfacial indentation tests were conducted to investigate the adhesion properties of the coating. And the result of the FFT analysis of this picture is presented below: On the FFT image, the low frequency area is in the center. The image I am analyzing is attached below: Portrait of woman posing on grass, by George Marks. The internal coating comprises hypereutectic Al-Si-Cu-Fe top layer, near-eutectic Al-Si bond layer, and transition layers, which were fabricated by an advanced internal rotating plasma spraying technology. I am learning about analyzing images with the method of FFT (Fast Fourier Transform). In this study, a new approach is proposed to create a large area of metallurgical bonding at the coating-substrate interface by the design of Al-Si based gradient coating on A383 alloy cylinder bore. The results window can be saved to a text document, where they can be formatted and analyzed further. The reliability of interface bonding strength between internal thermal sprayed coating and cylinder bore substrate causes special concern in the field of internal thermal spraying. Make sure that particles are not being counted as two together, this will skew area results.ġ9. Results are shown in a new window, as well as the image showing the particles that are actually being measured. Go to Show > Outlines to output a picture of what the software is measuringġ7.Ĝheck: Display Results and Include holesġ8. You can also tweak the circularity of the particles as well. Set size to about the size you would expect, this can be tweaked to make sure that the specks are not being counted. Example shown:ġ5.Ěnalyze the particle size by going Analyze > Analyze Particlesġ6. Move the two bars until you get black where the particles are, and a white background, it is ok if there is specks still showing, we will ignore those in the next steps. You are now ready to perform a particle distribution the previous steps were to get the image ready for analysis.ġ2.Ědjust the threshold by going to Image > Adjust > Thresholdġ3. Set bandpass filter by going Process > FFT > Bandpass Filter. ![]() Set Image as 8 bit by going Image > Type > 8 Bitġ0. It will open a new window with just the particles in the image.ĩ. ![]() Select OK, and your image in now calibrated to scale.Ĩ.ĝuplicate image by going to Image > Duplicate. File > Save as > "PLA Pellet Distribution 6-1-2018" Make sure the light is soft, and there are no shadows being created by the particles. Make sure the particles are not touching each other, you will get bad results.Ĭ. Place the particles and a ruler on a plain high contrast background.ī.
